John was a staunch friend from my earliest visits to Cyprus - we both worked for MoD Schools. He and Carole always made sure I knew there was a welcome and a social invitation if my trips allowed - and we enjoyed many shared beers over the years. Later on, Sue had the pleasure and privilege of working with John as a colleague at Akrotiri for a few months - nothing like as impressive as the 26 years that John gave to the school. We'd known Branscombe before we met John - and understood his passion for East Devon - it was always clear where Carole and John would be headed in retirement. It was an honour to be able to attend the funeral today - we will be raising a glass to this big-hearted man. Mike & Sue Chislett
