John was really special. He was a truly wonderful man full of selfless generosity, love, charm and wit. We have so many wonderful and happy memories of our time in Chardstock with him: he was the best neighbour you could ever have hoped for. He always extended us a generous welcome, a smile, an invariably hilarious anecdote, a grounded view of the world, and always the time to share a barbecue on a warmish summer, spring or autumn evening. Our children loved his company, the endless ice-cream, and fizzy drinks - as well as sharing a game or two of Kubb, along with the broken feet, ankles and fences that were part of our enjoyment of throwing sticks at each other. He will be so sorely missed - a giant of a man, with an even bigger heart, and we will always remember him. He holds a very special place in our memories. Love Stuart, Alex, Jacob and Heidi xx
