We arrived in Chardstock at the same time as John and Carole and we have had happy times not least as the Canasta Kids quiz team. John's main contribution was trips to the bar but he also brought, as always, a huge smile which I am sure many people will remember him by. I loved his wonderful ferocity with a skittle ball in hand and his rants against the follies of our political leaders and all the "idiots" in the world. But, most of all, I loved his discovery of the love for and joy of his grandchildren. Not surprising, as he was a big, caring, smiling, gentle man. We will miss him.
