Arguably John’s greatest invention was ‘Home Collection’. We would often gather at John and Carole’s, Paul and Jill’s or at our house, in Akrotiri on a Friday evening. We would invariably be heading, after several beers, to The Shalimar Indian restaurant. John, ever the charming patriarch, persuaded the lovely staff to come and collect us from home and take us - free of charge - to their restaurant. Invariably, they would then also take us home many hours later! How John got away with it, I don’t know, but what a great invention ‘Home Collection’ was!!!
